The pure type of quartz glass only consists of SiO2. For industrial use not only pure but also doped and less pure types are available. Quartz glass is resistant up to 1200°C and has a very low thermal expansion. The pure quartz glass has an extremely high transparency for radiation from the short UV range up to the middle infrared. Only few acids like hydrofluoric acid can attack this glass.
Quartz glass is used in laser applications, optical data transfer systems, semiconductor industry, UV and IR techniques, insulators and several other industrial fields. Quartz is available as plates, tubes or rods.
